About the Saratoga Region

Saratoga Springs, New York
is located at the foothills of the Adirondack Mountains. The city, rich in history, mineral waters and thoroughbred horse racing is one of America's 92 great places

Saratoga Springs began as "The Turning Point of the Revolution" where the British forces surrendered to the American Colonials in 1777. As people settled in the Saratoga Region, many were drawn to the wonderful mineral waters bubbling from the earth. Known for years by the Native Americans for its healing powers, many settlers drank the cherished medicine and bathed in the cool soothing liquid. Today, Saratoga Springs boasts dozens of mineral springs that can be sampled throughout the city in addition to a handful of mineral bathhouses available to take a soak. Saratoga Springs, NY is also home to the oldest thoroughbred racetrack in America. For over 130 years, the city has been home to racing's elite during the summer. Whether it's cheering on your champion to the winning ticket, taking in the sights and sounds in the clubhouse, or quietly watching the horses go through their early morning workouts, the racing season is like no other. Recognized as one of the most walkable cities, Saratoga Springs has preserved much of its Victorian charm. The beautifully preserved 19th century architecture was recognized by the National Trust for Historic Preservation in 1996 with the prestigious Great American Main Street. Many of our regional Saratoga bed and breakfasts have been able to conserve and maintain their Victorian architectural style.

Saratoga Springs is a special place. The summer home to the New York City Ballet and Philadelphia Orchestra provide a stunning classical schedule each year at the Saratoga Performing Arts Center. The Performing Arts Center also has jazz, chamber music, and contemporary acts throughout their summer schedule. From the National Museum of Dance to the National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame, Saratoga Springs is home to national and local museums. Thoroughbred horse racing begins the last Wednesday in July and runs through Labor Day each year. Thoroughbreds are not the only horses that trot into Saratoga each year. Harness racing and World class polo are part of the summer schedule in Saratoga. Take a mineral bath, stroll along the city streets picking out that perfect antique and complete your day with a meal at one of the many award winning restaurants - Saratoga has it all!
